Monday November 2, 2015

Sleep in til 8:00.
We both shower and organize our bags, then walk to Tia Sophia for breakfast. We both order Huevos Rancheros Christmas style. Its water for me.
Wall decor over Dan's head. The mayor stops to say Hello. Where Ya from?
It's a nice stroll back to our hotel. Dan needs a ristra;) i want a lavender and juniper smudge stick. The one with rose petals is $2.00 more. The owner gives me 41 dollars in change from a twenty. I return the money.
I am smelling it in my carry on as i sit here in the Albequerque Airport.
We check out and bid Julia a fond farewell
Off we go! A stop at the Goodwill for good measure. I find pink tissue wrap for .75 so i'm content:)
We drive south towards Albequerque.
Drive through the City of Coronado called Bernalillo.
Then i navigate our car to Marble Brewery. We taste a Que Fancy and choose the Wildflower Wheat.
Dan orders a margarita slice of really perfect pizza in a square. (Fresh mozzerella basil and pesto on a red sauce.)

Then South for gas and the Sunpark Airport. We returned our car to Avis and checked in at Alaska. We had an easy preboard but my carry on fell over and all the careful packing went screwy on the conveyor belt. I lost it.
Then regrouped, found the bathroom and we are settled in at B-6.
We board for Seattle at 3:55 pm. Then into Portland.
Hasta Luego New Mexico;)  66 will go down in history as a Favorite Birthday Celebration 💛💙🌵💙💛
And welcome home! Dan hangs the ristra and I finish my book

Sunday November 1, 2015

We set our clocks back! So waking was at 6:30. I sat and crawled back in to bed for another half hour. Dan set an alarm.
We met Mike and Nancy at 8:30 and enjoyed breakfast at The Palacio Cafe. My first huevos rancheros with decaf this trip.

Nancy arranged for a Historic Walking Tour with Steve Collins at 10:00 am
We walked in the sun and stopped for a mini lesson for three hours. So many sights and stories. He suggested a book about Bishop Lamy by a Horgan author.
We each paid $25. It was great! He answered many  questions . He also  suggested a. Train ride from Las Vegas to Santa Fe. We saw how adobes were constructed and saw an asecia.
The first NativeAmerican saint.
St Francis dances on water.
Black eyed susans near five graces

We regrouped for a breather, and then met up behind the Julia ( Staab) Lounge for lunch. We had planned to eat a picnic style but the family decided to order Cesar salads and beers with chips and salsa. Then, we pulled out last night's boxed leftovers and feasted on Pasquals.
After lunch we caught a lift to the Railyard to browse a flea market and met two artists: Raya and Douglas Johnson. we bought two boxes of Christmas cards. Her art was beasutiful. Mike might buy a piece, it was expensive;)
I tasted a El Pecos Porter.
Then home to chill, watch the Seahawks and prepare for dinner at La Tabla de los Santo @ 7:00. I wore Franny's taupe designer dress.
The restaurant was at the St Francis Hotel, and nearly vacant of diners. They no not serve cocktails, only beer and wine. We order d a delicious Tempranillo! I had a huge beet salad and a mac cheese lolli pop appetizer , which was ample! Dan offered the remaining pop to our driver who gleefully accepted;)
Once at La Inn de la Pisada, we settled into Julias for a nightcap and good
Byes to Mike and Nancy who leave early tomorrow morning. We returned to our room to watch the Kansas City Royals take theWorld Series in 12 innings, scoring 5 runs in the eleventh.
Good Night!

Then to lunch at The Thunderbird.

Kachina wall paintings
I order the BLT wedge with chilis and blue cheese. Dan had BLT and fries, which I helped myself to.
Then a little shopping, rose hips tea and sage soap. The Detour Tour did not happen;) so we walked through the Basilica of St Francis and Loretta Chapel with the magic staircase .

It's cool so sit in the sun. Than we walk back to LaPosada to refresh and regroup. We head to Randall Davies Audobon Place . We hike for a mile or so,spotting  a  Townsend's Solitaire. Pretty trees and adobe home there.

Home after a refreshing outing, winding down Canyon Road, past trick or treaters, and dog walking persons.

The hotel is hosting a happy hour and pumpkin painting party which is fun!

Friday October 30, 2015

Up at 8:30 to meditate, it was daylight!
I did the 'go faster now' meditation. Feeling the buzz in me, then outside of me and then vibrating at the same frequency; always fun;)
I woke Dan from a deep sleep.
We showered and went to breakfast at the breakfast room. A sweet woman asked if we would like fruit and tortillas? Yes!
We each gathered a hard boiled egg, peeled, and nestled it in a crock pot chili salsa.  orange juice and coffee. Also on hand were Silk soy milk and granola.
We headed Norte to Chimayo for Mass at 11:00.

Then into the Sancuario for holy dirt, which i gathered in a Pilgrim potty bag! Thank god i had one:)
We bought holy Chimayo chili at the gift shop after lunch at El Rancho de Chimayo. ( and bought NM lavendar essential oil)
The morning was drizzly.
Dan had a combo plate and i a cheese quesadilla with guacamole and sour
cream. Sopapillas were a real treat!

http://picky-palate.com/2014/05/12/homemade-sopapilla-recipe/

I noticed we were near Abiquiu so we drove there! Georgia O'Keefe painted from there. We were looking for her home and actually found it, but  a man waved us out of the compound!

On to Ghost Ranch. It was so beautiful I wanted to paint the trees and hills and rocks! We found a few good shots and i walked the labyrinth while Dan took in the sight and smells of juniper at 7000 ft. The air was thin. I was so hyper

Home at three thirty to watch a few innings of the World Series and dress for dinner.
We meet Mike and Nancy at La Posada for a drink and chips. They flew into today and we'll have dinner at 8:00 st La Boca Tapas. Mike takes me by the arm as Dan hails the hotel shuttle
My three favorite items were the figs stuffed with cheve and wrapped in bacon.
Artichokes
Ahi carpaccio with black olive sorbet.
We are home now, Mets won and go to bed.
Whatta Day!
Sweet Dreams

Thursday October 29, 2015

*Leave home for the airport at 7:30. It took one hour to drive five miles to the airport! We were discussing the possibility of missing our plane, when we passed the four car smash up in the left lane of the I -205 bridge. Check in went easily. We walked directly to our gate. In half hour we were in Seattle.
Then we caught our connecting flight and settled in. Dan napped deeply and I got into my book, " Me before You".

SEA to ALB
In flight Alaskan Amber Ale
Deep orange/ Lt flavor /Unremarkable
Starbucks turkey and cheddar sandwich on whole grain/ with kale
Dan chose ham and Swiss on rye.
We had a Faux pas at Baggage, last one there! Our luggage had been removed to the ticket counter. We found it, ha!

We check in to the El Rey Inn. The first room is cramped and upstairs, we ask for another and check into 61. It is a suite with gas fireplace.

I Call Dad who is fine;)
We choose The Ranch house for dinner. The lady at Avis gave us a coupon for a free appetizer there. It had the fewest stars which indicated 'affordable'. It was a steal! I ordered sides: green chili cornbread, Cabbage slaw, and Baked Beans all for a five spot.!
Free chips/ brown salsa/ queso!
Dan chose the New Mexico style Flat Iron with calabacitas*
And we each ordered a local draft beer-Santa Fe Pale Ale.
Home to watch the Oregon Ducks and blog. It's rainy here.
